Ok but could be better for the price Jul 10, 2008 We bought this timer for our 3 year old's timeouts. It really does help him with timeout to see the lights flash to tell him when he's almost done.
But, for the price, I would have expected this to be easier to use (to use the Auto timer you have to push three buttons to start on a pre-set time) or be more flexible in programming (you cannot change the order of the lights to go from red to green instead of green to red).
Great concept, unfortunate execution Jul 01, 2008 This product concept is great, and when I take the time to set it up, it completely solves any problems we have with transitions. My son loves it and asks for it. Unfortunately, it is a huge pain to set up. Every time you want to change the amount of time on the timer, you have to go through a painful process with lots of button pushing, because you can't set the time without setting all of the options for sound effects and lights. The buttons are hyper-sensitive so sometimes after pressing the buttons 15 times you end up with a "double-click" that you didn't intend and have to start all over. If you always use the same time (5 minutes, for example) then it's no problem. Otherwise you might consider a kitchen timer. It would be a lot easier to use.
emotion saver Jun 29, 2008 We bought this timer as a result of having serious meltdowns from our four year old. She seemed to take forever to eat her meals, clean up after herself or pretty much anything that involved her completing a small task "by herself".
Thanks to this timer, those extended sessions are now a thing of the past. It is definitely not her favorite toy item, but it is a welcomed addition to our stress free days.
She does everything in a more timely manner because she knows that she will loose a privilege if the light turns red on her. It worked wonders after only 1 implementation. (Use a reasonable time frame when you are programming)
As long as you can read and follow directions, it is easy to operate.
visual timer helps keep whole family on time May 27, 2008 I bought this after my son was identified as mildly ASD. They had been using one like it at his preschool. It has been very helpful in reducing the number of fits when it is time to stop an activity. A added benefit is that it helps the family leave for school or church on time!
It works. May 24, 2008 Pros:
It works.
It has a fun look for kids.
Sufficienct volume.
Cons:
Overpriced for quality of product.
Lights light once and do not stay lit or flash as you would expect.
Sounds sound once and do not repeat as you would expect.
Not simple to use.
Bulky.
I would be happy if I paid half the price because this just was not well designed. It is, however, functional and my daughter uses it and now takes shorter showers so that is something.
